Yavapai: Dewey-Humboldt (of community & commitment)

Yavapai County is home to the town of Dewey-Humboldt, which can be found in Arizona. The beginning of the town’s history may be traced back to the latter half of the 1800s, when people first started moving into the region. The town’s first name was Dewey, and it was given that moniker in honor of Admiral George Dewey, a prominent figure in the conflict between the United States and Spain.
In the early days of Dewey’s history, it was primarily an agricultural village, with its early inhabitants cultivating cotton and alfalfa among other crops. In addition, the town served as the location of a number of mines, the most notable of which was the United Verde Copper Mine. This mine was both one of the largest and most prolific in the region.
The mining sector was thriving and more people were moving into the area around the turn of the century, which led to a population increase in the town. The town’s population grew very quickly, and as a result, Dewey became a thriving commercial and industrial center.
Around the middle of the 20th century, the town of Dewey and the neighboring town of Humboldt merged together to form the town of Dewey-Humboldt. The town kept growing and getting better, and as a result, it is now a busy place with a rich history and an exciting future.
Dewey-Humboldt has maintained a strong sense of community and a commitment to preserving its distinctive traditions throughout the entirety of its existence. This has allowed the town to stay faithful to its origins. It doesn’t matter if you’ve lived in the Dewey-Humboldt area all your life or if this is your first time visiting; it won’t take you long to understand why our community is so unique and why its past is so interesting.
